Volunteering

HALC provides volunteer placements for law students, particularly those undertaking their practical legal training (PLT) requirement prior to admission as a legal practitioner.

Volunteers at HALC are supervised by our employed solicitors and have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of our work, including direct client contact; involvement in numerous and diverse matters; usually some court appearances; submission writing; drafting of legal documents; strategising for client outcomes and hands on carriage (with supervision) of matters.

Volunteering opportunities are available during our normal office hours of 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday. Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of 3 days per week. For students undertaking their Practical Legal Training (PLT) placement generally we would like a commitment of 4 days per week, however the minimum is 3 days per week at this stage.

Volunteer solicitors

We are extremely grateful to the private solicitors and barristers who provide us with pro bono advice, assistance and representation in client matters on an ongoing basis.

If you are interested in donating your time and expertise to assist the work of the Centre, please contact us to discuss further.

How to apply

If you are interested in volunteering at HALC, please forward your CV and a cover letter, to admin@halc.org.au. Please indicate how many days per week you would be available.
